Patrice Evra arriving at West Ham United was a little surprise after the end of the January transfer window.

Initially revealed by Twitter account ExWHUemployee, the news was quickly jumped upon without credit by the mainstream media (Sky sources, we’re looking at you).

Evra had come to a difficult end at Marseille, attacking a fan after insults were sent the fullback’s way, and it’s not too harsh to say his stay at the French club was a disappointment generally.

Not quite at his best level these days, the 36 year old is considered by David Moyes to be a good squad edition, and it wasn’t only the West Ham manager who was keen on the player.

This week’s edition of France Football has a feature on Evra and his out of window move, and reports there was wider interest in the player.

According to the claims, West Ham beat Turkish clubs Bursaspor, Antalyaspor and Galatasaray, as well as La Liga side Real Betis and interest from China.

Yet to appear for West Ham, Moyes will hope Evra can contribute on and off the pitch.
