West Ham United are one of the clubs interested in the signing of Portimonense striker Beto, according to today’s reports from Portugal.
It’s newspaper Record who brings the news, claiming there could be a little auction for the transfer of the 23-year-old in the summer.
Benfica are the main club in that race, as they’ve already made a bid of €8m for 70% of Beto’s rights. They even have a personal offer of a yearly salary worth €1m.
But the Eagles are said to be ‘attentive’ to the moves in the market, and know that Portimonense will work during the transfer window to make as much money as possible from the striker.
Record claims that West Ham and Atalanta are other clubs battling for the signing, as both have already ‘asked the conditions’ to get Beto. That means they’re joining the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt and CSKA Moscow in the competition.
Meanwhile, Portimonense will demand €20m for the transfer. That’s half of his €40m release clause, and they’re willing to negotiate the percentage they’ll have of a future sale.
Benfica think they’re already making an effort by offering that €8m, and are expected to avoid an auction for the signing. That probably means West Ham and others will have one less competitor in case bigger bids arrive.
