West Ham have asked Marseille to pay as much as €40m, if they want to sign Dimitri Payet, reports L’Equipe.
Slaven Bilic confirmed in his press conference Payet wants to leave the club, but they don’t want to sell him.
The Frenchman has been linked with a return to Marseille, after West Ham failed to keep up their momentum this season, and has been asked to train with the reserves.
L’Equipe say Payet was joined by his agent in London yesterday, before they met West Ham for talks.
Marseille have reportedly bid around €22m plus €3m in bonuses should they qualify for the Champions League, but must now increase their offer.
L’Equipe say West Ham could use the interest from China to attract higher bids for Payet, but Marseille will still feel confident.
Asking €40m isn’t unreasonable from West Ham, and Marseille now need to show they’ve got the spending power they’ve been insinuating they now have.
