With Declan Rice being a very wanted man in the transfer market, it’s no surprise to see West Ham United already going after potential replacements for him in midfield.

So as Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport today writes about the future of Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, the Hammers show up as one of the contenders for the signing.

The outlet features an update on the Serbian’s situation, saying he’s still to give his club any sign that he’ll renew his contract, which expires in 2024.

Now as Lazio may feel forced to sell him this summer, West Ham are one of the Premier League clubs who show up as potential destinations for him.

Gazzetta writes that the Hammers ‘could find themselves in a position to replace Rice’ and go after Milinkovic-Savic.

What could help West Ham in this chase is that the Lazio player should be cheaper now. There were no buyers to sign him for the requested €100m price tag last year, and a discount should be on the way.

The Serie A side obviously hope the player agrees to an extension until the summer, but as things stand, the sale is the most likely scenario.

Targeting Milinkovic-Savic is an ambitious plan from West Ham, and Gazzetta believe they’d be up against clubs including Arsenal and Newcastle United.
