Two months ago, we covered claims from Argentina which stated West Ham United are in the picture to sign Club Atlético Independiente’s Kevin Lomónaco this summer.

Fast forward to June and Minuto Uno mentions West Ham when covering the latest on the player’s future.

They state the 23-year-old could leave the Argentine club this summer. Lomónaco is closely followed by Real Betis, clubs in Portugal and, ‘most importantly’, West Ham.

Club Atlético Independiente initially signed the defender on loan from Red Bull Bragantino in August of last year and made his stay permanent in December. They secured him on a contract until December 2027.

The report states West Ham are willing to exercise the centre-back’s $20m [€17.5m] release clause. Club Atlético Independiente’s coaching staff want to keep their player but are aware of the possibility of losing him. Their management are clear that he will only leave if there’s an offer of $20m.

Radio Marca journalist Santiago Narváez took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report on the Hammers and Real Betis. He says West Ham have made advances to secure the Argentine’s services in ‘recent days’.

Narváez adds Graham Potter’s side are willing to pay his release clause, but they aren’t alone. An unnamed English club who secured promotion to the Premier League are also interested.

Lomónaco is also keen on a move to La Liga, where the option of joining Real Betis isn’t ruled out, even though it’ll be a complex operation.
