West Bromwich Albion have made a bid for Galatasaray striker Mbaye Diagne, his agent has confirmed.
Diagne has been named as a target for the Baggies this week, with West Brom manager Sam Allardyce keen to add a forward to his squad in the January transfer window.
Diagne is believed to be a target, but there have been contrasting reports about what sort of deal they are looking at for the player.
At first, it appeared they were chasing a loan deal with a purchase option included but, a report today stated that those negotiations turned around and West Brom were now discussing a permanent €4.5m deal.
This also flew in the face of other reports from the country, with agent (general agent, not player specific in this case) Mesrun Izzet stating earlier that Diagne wasn’t actually a target.
“Galatasaray received an official offer,” he told Ozgur Sancar on Radiospor, relayed by Ajansspor.
“For Mbaye Diagne, West Brom Albion have offered Galatasaray a loan. They offered 1.5 million euros as a rental fee. End-of-season purchase option.
“Galatasaray has not yet responded, they are waiting.”
“In my opinion, they could give Diagne to West Brom with a rental fee and an end-of-season compulsory purchase option. There’s an offer for Diagne.
“I don’t think he’s a player in Fatih Terim’s system. Fatih Terim wants number 9s who do not remove stoppers, who press.
“Diagne is a good football player, but at Galatasaray, he doesn’t fit the system; but he does business in West Brom’s system.”
It now remains to be seen whether Diagne does actually arrive and if he does, on what sort of deal.
At this moment in time, it is only Takvim who have stated there are talks over a permanent transfer, with everyone else insisting it is a loan deal this month.
Perhaps there has been some misconception on their part, or the clubs are simply discussing both options at this moment in time.
Either way it’s clear that Diagne is a target for West Brom, who are seemingly edging closer to getting the striker they want.
