Having rumours coming and going from different countries has always been the best way to spread a story without accepting responsibility for it.
This seems to be the case of the latest news linking West Brom to Inter Milan striker Eder, which has been covered by several outlets in the past few days.
The first report came from Calcio Mercato on Monday night, saying that according to news from England, the Baggies would be interested in the 30-year-old.
The thing is, there are no previous links coming from the English press. Not in the past week.
But after Calcio Mercato wrote it, other websites did the same, this time crediting the Italian outlet and never questioning where it came from.
One of them was the Birmingham Mail, and because they’re seen as well informed local media, it was the perfect opportunity for Calcio Mercato to recycle the rumour and say it came from England once again.
So on Monday, the Italian website launched Eder to West Brom, and on Thursday they completely ignored their original claims and published the story again, crediting the Birmingham Mail, who had got it from Calcio Mercato in the first place.
This could definitely turn into an endless rumour, so let’s see what comes next.
