Despite a strong interest in the January transfer window, West Bromwich Albion are now considered to be out of the race for the Sporting midfielder Rodrigo Battaglia.

As newspaper O Jogo reports today the many clubs who could be taking the player from Lisbon in the summer window, they totally throw the Baggies out of the battle, giving the club a special mention.

The outlet claims that West Brom offered €15m to sign the 26-year-old in January. The offer was obviously rejected, half the amount that Sporting demanded.

Now O Jogo says West Brom is ‘more focused in staying in the Premier League’, and that’s the reason why ‘they seem to be out of the race’.

Battaglia’s agents are expected to meet Sporting in April, and discuss what will be of the midfielder’s future. Roma, Napoli, Inter Milan and West Ham are all said to be interested in him.

Now if West Brom manage to avoid relegation, let’s see if they can get back in the race in time to make another offer.
