Turkish newspaper Fanatik claim West Bromwich Albion boss Slaven Bilic wants to sign his compatriot Domagoj Vida after securing Premier League football for next season.
Despite a shaky end to the season, Bilic’s side managed to get promotion along with Leeds United, and they are now looking to strengthen their squad ahead of return to the top flight.
It’s reported Vida is a target for Bilic, and that he wants to work with the central defender again after the pair enjoyed a decent relationship in the Croatian national team. For this transfer, Fanatik claim West Brom could offer up to €6m.
Vida is the highest earner in the Besiktas squad, and previous reports in the Turkish press suggested the Black Eagles board are looking to part ways with the player.
Besiktas have already done this with Burak Yilmaz and Loris Karius.
If they manage to sell Vida, it’s reported that the Turkish side will target their former defender Marcelo, who now plays for Lyon.
West Brom fans should probably note that Vida has been linked to almost every club promoted to the Premier League over the past couple of seasons or so. It’s a rite of passage, and it seems clear Besiktas feel they can tempt a newly promoted side to take Vida off their hands.
