On December 16th, A Bola had it splashed across their front page that West Brom had made a €15m offer for Rodrigo Battaglia.
Sporting had knocked that back, at the time wanting €25m to allow Battaglia to leave the club during the January window. SC Braga are due 20% of any proceeds from the midfielder’s sale, having negotiated that condition when selling him for €4.5m last summer.
There was then some disagreement in the Portuguese media, with one claim West Brom could get the player for around €20m and another that Sporting simply didn’t want to sell at all.
West Ham were also brought into the situation, with O Jogo claiming on January 9th that both sides had made offers. It was slightly different from A Bola’s claim, with it being stated West Ham and West Brom had both offered €20m for the player.
This weekend the same O Jogo brought the two clubs back into it, saying West Brom offered €15m and West Ham €20m… contradicting their own earlier claim.
Battaglia is back in the news because it’s claimed Inter Milan are keen and plan to try and do the groundwork on a transfer ahead of the summer. Now the asking price is put at €30m, and it sounds like there’s forces in Portugal talking up the idea of a big summer sale.
