For quite some time West Brom were credited with an interest in Laurent Depoitre. The Belgian striker was expected to leave Gent and West Brom were one of a number of clubs following his situation.
Depoitre eventually signed for Porto and things haven’t exactly been perfect for him since. A single league goal all season and just 244 minutes in the Liga NOS mean Depoitre may well be moving on again in the summer.
West Brom are still watching his old club, with HLN reporting (via Voetbal Krant) they will have a scout watch Gent take on Tottenham in Belgium tonight. There’s a chance Tony Puli could be getting his scout to watch a Tottenham fringe player, with Mauricio Pochettino likely to field a weakened team.
Pochettino will believe he doesn’t need his full team to beat Gent and so it’d be no surprise to see some players getting a rest, and others, such as Kevin Wimmer, getting an opportunity.
Gent themselves have seen some talent come through their club in recent years and it’s certainly not out of the question that’s where West Brom’s concentration will be.
