At Leicester City for their title winning season, Cédric Kipré never got to play under Claudio Ranieri, but he was around the members of the first-team regularly.

When his contract ended at King Power Stadium, the defender headed to Scotland with Motherwell, where he spent just one season before moving to Wigan.

Two years later, after impressing with the Latics, it’s West Bromwich Albion who decided to bring him in following their promotion to the Premier League in hope the 23-year-old provides much needed safety in front of goal in what will likely be a tough season at The Hawthorns.

Speaking to France Football on Friday, Kipré opened up about his move to the Baggies and what it means for him.

He said: “It’s a very, very important day for me. I haven’t had a career like others. I’m very proud. I never imagined myself being in the Premier League at 23 years of age. I saw myself at that level more at 25. I’ve had a lot of failures to date. Few would have imagined me here one day”.

Despite Wigan getting relegated to League One, Kipré had a good season with them, which led to West Brom coming forward.

After that, everything happened relatively quickly, according to the player.

He said: “Four weeks ago, I learned of [West Brom’s] interest, it made me really happy. I’m not going there as a starter or a sub. It will be up to me to make my way into the team”.

Over the course of his two seasons at Wigan, Kipré made 77 appearances and scored two goals.
