West Brom, Southampton and Arsenal are some of the clubs who are expected to go back for William Carvalho in the near future.
According to A Bola this Thursday, these three clubs made bids for the midfielder during the last summer transfer window, with the Baggies being those who got closest to signing him.
WBA waited until the last days of the market and offered €30m, but it was still not enough to convince Sporting to talk.
The initial offers from West Brom were laughable, considering the current market, Carvalho’s profile, and how he performed at Euro 2016.
William Carvalho has a €45m release clause, which will be used by Sporting to keep the player during the January window. Due to the title race, there’s no way they are going to negotiate for any players.
A Bola claims that ‘anything can happen’ next summer, but reasonable offers would have to be made first. West Brom’s approaches sound more serious, and are certainly more detailed, than those from Southampton and Arsenal.
Arsenal have been linked with Carvalho for a couple of years, but given the purchases of Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka in recent windows, Arsene Wenger may well have moved on.
Southampton are always on the lookout for clever buys and Carvalho may well represent that for Claude Puel.
