After speaking to the Portuguese media this week, West Brom manager Slaven Bilic has been interviewed by his home country’s press this time.
In a chat with Croatian outlet 24 Sata, the manager spoke a little about the first jobs in his career and the lockdown during the Coronavirus crisis.
And when speaking of Hajduk, the club who he played for and had his first experience as a manager, he’s compared them to Championship side Leeds United.
“There are clubs that mean a lot to the city and the region, and Hajduk is something more. There are clubs like this, but Hajduk is a way of life. It’s Napoli, it’s Leeds, I felt it, it’s the giants,” Bilic told 24 Sata.
Leeds United and West Brom currently hold the two automatic promotion places in the Championship, and it’s clear Marcelo Bielsa’s club has had an impact on the Baggies boss.
Bilic was also asked why Serbia and Bosnia can’t achieve the same results as Croatia, despite having top players in both squads.
“Serbia and Bosnia have quality, for generations they have players who play in the biggest European clubs, but they are not like us, they don’t have results like Croatia. I don’t know why, but they obviously lack the charge we Croats must have.”
Just like when speaking to the Portuguese press, Bilic says he’s been spending time listening to music and playing guitar, and his ‘little progress’ with the instrument makes time go faster.
He also stated that the tendency is for the English football season ‘to be finished’, regardless of when it’s coming back.
