Playing a key role in helping Metz return to France’s elite by winning Ligue 2, Opa Nguette helped out with seven goals and two assists in 33 league appearances before hitting free agency on June 30th.
The left-winger, who can also feature down the right if need be, attracted some attention with his performances, notably from Nantes, who are on the lookout for an Anthony Limbombe replacement after the former Club Brugge starlet returned to Belgium with Standard Liège.
On top of Ligue 1 interest (which he ultimately rejected), the forward caught the eye of West Bromwich Albion, according to Goal in France.
The Championship side are said to have ‘asked for information’, presumably from those in charge of the player’s matters, but have yet to make an official contract offer to the 24-year-old.
However, there is strong competition from Belgium for the Baggies, as the website explain Club Brugge and Genk have both presented the player with a three-year contract.
The player has also met with Philippe Clément, Brugge’s manager, which could help tip things in their favour.
As for West Brom, if they are truly interested in the Senegal international, they might have to act quickly, although the appeal of playing in the Champions League with either Genk (directly qualified for the group stages) or Club Brugge (third qualifying round of the competition) is likely to trump that of the Championship.
