Sandro Tonali was on fire for Newcastle United yesterday, as he grabbed a brace against Brentford in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

It was the first time he has been on the scoresheet for Newcastle United this season, with his last goal for the club coming early in the 2023/24 campaign.

This came after doubts had emerged about Tonali’s future at Newcastle United, and Juventus were linked with a move yesterday in a front-page Italian media story.

Former Juve midfielder Angelo di Livio was asked about the 23-year-old midfielder during a chat with TVPlay and he shared his admiration for the Italy international.

He said: “Tonali at Juve? In my opinion he is one of the best in Europe. In England he is also improving, we are talking about a crazy player. He costs a lot though.”

That is certainly big praise for Tonali, who is only into his first full season with Newcastle, as he missed a chunk of last season due to suspension.

If he keeps contributing consistently this season, it can help the Magpies qualify for European competitions as Eddie Howe’s side find themselves 12th in the Premier League.

Playing in European competitions could help Newcastle United keep the midfielder, both from a financial and sporting aspect.
