Racing Genk striker Paul Onuachu has revealed Wolverhampton Wanderers were interested in his signature this summer.

Bruno Lage’s side were keen to add another forward to their squad this summer, having struggled for goals last season.

The decision to let Fabio Silva move on loan to Anderlecht had left Wolves short of options, particularly with Raul Jimenez continuing to struggle with injuries.

They eventually signed striker Sasa Kalajdzic from VfB Stuttgart in a £16.2m deal but were left needing to replace him with Diego Costa when he picked up a cruciate ligament injury on his debut.

The Spanish striker will now presumably be the first choice forward until Jimenez returns from his own injury, an unfortunate situation to say the least given he has been without a club since January.

It seems there could have been a different man leading the line for them this season, though, with Onuachu revealing that there was interest from Molineux.

“To be honest, I am tired of talking about transfers,” he told HLN.

“I have erased it from my memory. I’m not going to deal with it anymore: not now and not in the future. I don’t care anymore. I want to enjoy this team. I am happy here.

“Wolverhampton (Wanderers), but it didn’t materialise. They went for another. He apparently injured himself badly in his first match.

“The English transfer market had closed by then. So, they could only get transfer-free players and ended up with Diego Costa. That’s football, eh.”
