Manchester City loanee Yangel Herrera arrived at Espanyol last year as their big signing of the summer, having big expectations around him.

It turns out that the 24-year-old is struggling with injuries, getting only 12 appearances for the club so far, and is currently concerned about getting a bigger sequence and proving himself at the La Liga side.

Speaking to AS, Herrera talked about his objectives at Espanyol for the rest of the season.

“I had setbacks since my arrival. I hope to continue with the sum of minutes and that this will make me reach the level that I can give. Against Sevilla I left with good feelings, I prefer to continue evolving”

The player was also quizzed about the chances of staying at the Spanish club on a  permanent move, but still didn’t want to tease with that subject for now.

“We’ll see in the summer, it’s early to evaluate other possibilities.”

Yangel Herrera joined Manchester City in a move from Atletico Venezuela back in 2017. Since then, he’s had loans at New York City, Huesca Granada and Espanyol, and never had the chance to play a single minute at the Premier League side.

His contract with the English club runs until 2024, and in case of a return, a new loan wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.
