Aster Vranckx left KV Mechelen for VfL Wolfsburg in January 2021, less than a month after his transfer to the German club was announced.
The midfielder’s agent had then explained his client was wanted by Manchester City and a few other clubs. It was also mentioned the 19-year-old ‘dreams of Chelsea’.
Earlier this month, we carried a report from Bild, who said the youngster is a ‘big Chelsea fan’ and dreams of making a switch to Stamford Bridge.
The Belgium U21 international scored a brace in his side’s 4-1 league win over Greuther Fuerth last weekend. He is dubbed a ‘super talent’, who was bought by the German club for €8m more than a year ago. That tag, however, doesn’t mean anything to the player.
“That means I’m doing my thing. But that doesn’t mean anything. It can go fast, you know. For the same money, I’ll play a bad match next week and I’ll be rejected,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws.
“That’s how it goes. Beware: it’s nice that positive things are written about me, but it doesn’t really matter much to me.”
Kevin De Bruyne excelled for Wolfsburg before he was sold to Manchester City in 2015.
When quizzed whether the German club is a ‘springboard’ to make a switch elsewhere in the summer, Vranckx said: “I just have to finish this season as well as possible. Play strong, score goals and give assists. I focus on Wolfsburg. And then we’ll see what the summer brings.”
Vranckx was specifically quizzed about a dream of joining either Chelsea or Real Madrid. He said: “There are many great top clubs.”
It’s been repeatedly reported for over 18 months now that Vranckx is a fan of Chelsea. It remains to be seen whether the west London club will look at him anytime in the future.
