Two months ago, reports coming from Spain stated Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as suitors for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
On May 25th, AS explained the 21-year-old had received a call from the Red Devils and that Erik ten Hag’s side can sign him for an affordable price this summer.
A few days later, we covered claims made by Marca that explained Tottenham have joined Manchester United in the race for the keeper.
Los Ches signed the Georgia international on a loan deal from Dinamo Tbilisi in the summer of 2021 and then made his stay permanent. He signed a contract until 2024, with an option to extend it for a further year.
Mamardashvili kept eight clean sheets and conceded 20 goals from 18 La Liga games last term.
Plaza Deportiva have interviewed the goalkeeper and it was no surprise there were questions about his future at Valencia.
“I have a 2+1 contract with Valencia and I’m happy. I really like Valencia as a city, I like the people,” he said.
When specifically asked about the reports of Manchester United and Tottenham interest in him, Mamardashvili explained: “I see it but now the first thing is Valencia. Then we’ll see.
“It is very important for me to be happy and I am happy, I like the team, I like the city.”
