Following claims in the English press that Manchester United were ready to make a bid for Bordeaux’s Malcom in the January transfer window, the cub’s president decided to step forward and put things straight.

Already relayed by Goal a few days ago, Stéphane Martin made it clear his star player wouldn’t be going anywhere in the upcoming transfer window.

However, speaking to Sud-Ouest, the Bordeaux president also hinted there was every chance Malcom would end up leaving in the summer, confirming previous reports he had the green light to do so if he stayed for the current season.

He said: “We reached an agreement last summer that he would spend the season with us. Neither him nor his agents have told us that wouldn’t be the case. The deal is clear and the situation is that we won’t let him go. We’ll see in June”.

So, if José Mourinho does really want the Brazilian winger, which would make sense considering his apparent disdain towards Henrikh Mkhitaryan these days, to help his side out down the right, there’s nothing to be done in January.

However, even if he does have a free pass to leave next year, Malcom will not be cheap, recently renewing his deal until 2021, as Bordeaux know he’s their best chance to get some serious money in their bank account going forward.

Then again, if Manchester United want a player, money isn’t usually problematic.
