Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen has insisted he will be returning to the club in the summer, although he is unsure for how long.
The Dutchman joined Brighton from Ajax last summer but is yet to get his chance with Graham Potters’ side, instead spending most of his time in Premier League 2.
That saw him shipped out on loan in the January transfer window, joining Belgian side KV Oostende on loan until the end of the season.
He’s been a regular for them since his arrival, making five appearances in the Jupiler Pro League so far, a figure he is likely to add to before the end of the campaign.
The loan deal is only until the end of the season when he will be returning to Brighton ahead of the next campaign.
Whether he will be staying to compete with Robert Sanchez for the number one jersey, though, remains to be seen, something the player is acutely aware of.
“I’ll be there for the preparation in any case,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws.
“Then we’ll see what comes next. A new loan spell next season is an option. I want to show what I can do.
“The people who really follow me know my qualities. I can rule in the sixteen and in the air, thanks to my length. Those are my strengths. In Brighton, they know that too.”
