Portimonense now admit that Shoya Nakajima is very close to completing his winter transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The confirmation has been made by club president Rodiney Sampaio this Thursday, who, in a chat with Radio Renascença, claimed that the talks are well advanced.
“There has been a conversation, but it is not yet 100% finalised, but it is possible already in January,” Sampaio told Rádio Renascença. “What is at issue is the payment of the entire termination clause or not, so it has not been finished. Nakajima is 80% at Wolverhampton.
“It’s a great sporting loss for us. Nakajima is a great player, he has adapted very well to Portimonense. We’ll all regret his departure, the squad but also the fans. It turns out we had no chance of holding him.”
The news of Nakajima’s transfer to Wolves was broken by A Bola in an article on their website on Wednesday, where they claimed the player is moving on a €20m deal. This Thursday, they had a more complete story in their paper edition.
However, some websites, including Transfermarkt, claim that the player has a €40m release clause. That’s why Sampaio’s quotes leave doubt around the amount Wolves will spend on him.
