With the international break now over, it’s back to club football, which also means the return of the Champions League.
As things stand, Liverpool are well on their way to securing a spot in the first knockout round of the competition, having beaten Ajax, Atalanta and Mitdtjylland in the first three games, scoring eight goals and conceding none.
Most of those goals came in the 5-0 dismantling of the Serie A side in Italy, with the return fixture to take place next Wednesday at Anfield.
While many expect a repeat of the first game, Cristian Romero, on loan from Juventus at Atalanta, has made it clear they’ll make sure that won’t be the case.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, relayed by Corriere dello Sport, about the poor result on November 3rd, he said: “Even if the Reds are very strong, we didn’t play well in the last game. We need to put in a good performance, we hope to get a result. We’ll need another mentality”.
The centre-back is under contract at Atalanta until 2022, with the Serie A side having paid £1.8m to secure his services for the next two seasons, including an option to buy.
While he didn’t play in the 5-0 loss, he’ll be wanting to show to his manager that putting him in the starting line up can make a difference, and will be raring to go to keep the likes of Sadio Mané and Diogo Jota at bay.
