Right at the end of the winter transfer window, Manchester United ended up getting linked to a new goalkeeper.
That’s Benfica’s Anatoliy Trubin, whose future suddenly turned into a big topic in the Portuguese media.
The story is today explained by newspaper O Jogo. That happened because the player and his agent gave Povoroznyuk Dmytro an interview. They were asked about the goalkeeper’s future, and representative Maryna Andriienko tipped that the 22-year-old could leave Benfica in the summer, with Manchester United getting a mention.
“Let’s wait for the summer, Trubin could get there with even more visibility. Manchester United? I’m not going to talk about it, it’ll be a secret, let’s keep it a mystery,” said the agent.
Trubin joined Benfica last summer, following a €10m move from Shakhtar Donetsk. He soon guaranteed a starting place there, and has 26 appearances made so far, with 22 goals conceded and 10 clean sheets.
It’s worth pointing out that he’s protected by a €100m release clause, and it definitely wouldn’t be easy to take an important player from Benfica.
So Manchester United would need to get financially prepared to make such a signing.
The Red Devils invested over €50m on the signing of Andre Onana from Inter Milan in the summer, so we also wonder whether they’d spend that much on a goalkeeper so soon after that recent outlay for the Cameroon international.
