Tottenham Hotspur’s Bryan Gil has been on loan at Girona since last summer and his future beyond this season needs to be clarified.
Girona president Delfí Geli has been speaking to Esports COPE, and he talked about the winger’s stay at the club beyond this season.
The Tottenham man has managed four goals and three assists from 32 games for the La Liga side this season.
Earlier claims from Spain stated the Catalan club aren’t planning to exercise the €15m purchase option but still want to retain him.
Last week, Gil suffered an injury in training and that will rule him out for the rest of this season. He already underwent surgery and will be out of action for four to five months.
On Thursday, journalist Nil Sola reported that one of the top surgeons, Dr Manuel Leyes, operated on Gil. Sola also stated the Tottenham owned player’s future is ‘up in the air’.
The Girona president hasn’t ruled out extending the 24-year-old’s stay after he impressed for them. However, a decision on the Spain international’s future will be made at the end of this season.
“He’s a player the coach trusted. The important thing is that he recovers well. He’s a loan player who has performed well; we’ll have to talk about it when the time comes. We’re finishing the season and getting the points will give us peace of mind. From here on, we can plan calmly,” he said.
Gil’s contract at Spurs expires in 2026 and the two parties hope to have better clarity on his future in the summer window.
