Colombia should look beyond Marcelo Bielsa should they wish to replace Reinaldo Rueda in the near future after the manager was recently sacked from Leeds United and replaced by Jesse Marsch.
That’s according to Colombian journalist Antonio Vélez, who believes they should avoid the ex-Elland Road resident after appointing Jose Pekerman and his team in the past.
Bielsa finds himself out of work after being sacked by Leeds United on Sunday following a dismal run of form that had left the Whites just two points outside of the relegation zone.
The 66-year-old is unlikely to remain out of the game for too long, though, with his longest spell out of work being three years following his departure from Argentina in 2004.
His home country are one of two national teams that Bielsa has managed, enjoying a four-year spell in charge of his own country and then three years with Chile from 2007 to 2011.
While his time with Argentina was a mixed bag, his spell in charge of Chile is one many still look back on fondly, and it is likely there are several international teams who would be keen on his signature now he has left Leeds United.
Vélez has urged Colombia not to be one of those countries, though, believing that Bielsa is now long past his best.
“They would not even be able to match the big money taken by the Argentinian gang who were here for seven years and who became millionaires with the official and the unofficial deals,” Infobae report him saying.
“Bielsa would not even come to Colombia for that kind of money. He has a Premier League price.
“Believe it or not, he has not had good results. Yes, he won the second Premier League (Championship), but his results in recent times have not been good.
“They tell me that he did very well in Chile. Yes, of course, in Chile, he did very well 10 years ago, not now; they tend to be different times and different football.”
