Despite having left Liverpool nearly three years ago, Spanish midfielder Pedro Chirivella still has lots of things to say about his time with the Reds.
The 25-year-old left Anfield on a free move to Nantes, where he ended up becoming an important player.
Chirivella was this week interviewed by Ligue 1’s official website, and when speaking of his evolution as a player, he couldn’t ignore his time with Liverpool.
First when asked about his definition of a good pass, he explained what he learned with the Reds about that.
“First, it’s a pass that reaches a teammate. Then it has to be forward and break a line. When I was in England, during my training at Liverpool, coach Neil Critchley told me that the role of the midfielders was to put in the best conditions the players who will make the difference: the number 10, the striker or the wingers. So, a good pass is managing to find someone who will make the difference,” Chirivella told Ligue 1’s website.
“It is especially at the physical level that my time at Liverpool helped me a lot. At the time, I already had a high volume of play, but I always ran at the same tempo, I was lacking in high intensity sprints. It was my weak point when I was younger, but I think I’ve improved a lot. I have continued to work on this since my arrival in Nantes.”
Chirivella joined Liverpool still as a teenager, as he was signed by the Reds’ academy on a €2.3m move from Valencia back in 2013.
After becoming a professional, he had loans at Go Ahead Eagles, Willem and Extremadura, having ended up getting few chances to actually play for the Reds.
In total, he made 11 appearances for Liverpool.
Five of them were in the 2015/16 season, and six others in 2019/20, just before agreeing his permanent exit to Nantes.
