Aston Villa’s interest in Rosenborg BK’s Sverre Nypan has been reported on in the UK and Norway over the past week.

On Monday, Aston Villa director Monchi was in Oslo to watch the 18-year-old in action against Vålerenga.

Nettavisen, who met the Aston Villa official at Scandic Helsfyr, stated he held talks with the midfielder’s father, Arne Nypan. They believe the Villans could make advances to sign him.

They also reported the Spaniard left the stadium after the Norway U21 international was replaced in the second half. After yesterday’s tie, TV2 in Norway got in touch with Sverre Nypan to ask him about Monchi’s latest transfer trip.

The youngster was surprised that Monchi and Aston Villa scout Alberto Benito were in attendance at Vålerenga’s home stadium yesterday.

“No, I didn’t know they were coming. There are agents and scouts all the time. That’s the case for every game. I focus on what I do on the pitch,” he said.

During the half-time break, TV2 also got in touch with Rosenborg sporting director Micke Dorsin.

They showed him images of Monchi in stands and when asked about it, Dorsin explained: “Yes, I know who it is. I think there are many clubs in place today that are looking at many players. Among others Sverre. It’s good for everyone and for Norwegian football.

“Yes, it should be. He [Nypan] has been good for many years and looks so young. We will be paid well, and I think everyone knows that.”

Rosenborg manager Alfred Johansson was asked about Aston Villa’s interest in Nypan and Monchi’s visit.

“It’s a good team, so I understand they want to come and see,” he added.
