West Ham United summer signing Crysencio Summerville has insisted there is no bad feeling with Mohammed Kudus and he in fact enjoys competing for a starting place with him.
Voetbal International cover comments from the West Ham winger today in which he insists that the two players in fact need each other to be at their best.
Summerville has had something of a difficult start to life at West Ham so far this season after moving from Leeds United in the summer transfer window.
He joined the Hammers after a season in which he had established himself as the best player in the Championship with Leeds last season.
He is yet to hit those heights at West Ham, where he’s found getting into the starting 11 more difficult than he might have imagined under Julen Lopetegui.
Part of that is because of the talent already available to the Spanish coach, with their squad arguably the strongest it’s been in some time.
Kudus is one of the direct competitors for a place and an undisputed starter when available after starring since joining West Ham from Ajax in 2023.
Summerville has no problem with that, though, and instead believes the competition is good for the pair of them.
“Kudus is my boy,” he said.
“A good player, but also a nice person. I don’t have to explain anything about his footballing qualities, everyone can see that for themselves. Really, wow.
‘Sometimes I see things during training that make me think this is just crazy, this is crazy. He is a top talent I hope we will experience many great moments on the field together. Hopefully he will be able to achieve what he has in mind.
“Of course, we are competitors but, in my eyes, there is a healthy competition. We want to see each other win, that’s what makes it beautiful.
“We also know that we need each other. He keeps me sharp; I keep him sharp. That’s the way it is in this world. Whoever shows it in training, will play.”
