Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola wanted to sign Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso in the winter market.

Manchester City carried out negotiations with the Turin club but weren’t able to complete the transfer. The left-back’s agent, Giovanni Bia, confirmed this on Friday, and he also revealed Guardiola was keen on signing his client.

Later that day, Juventus technical director Cristiano Giuntoli said his side are pleased that the 24-year-old stayed with them despite the English club’s interest. He told this to DAZN and Calciomercato have relayed his comments.

“There was interest from an important English club, but we are happy he stayed,” he said.

On Friday, the Serie A club sealed a 2-1 win over Como. Giuntoli had a chat with DAZN prior to this tie and Tuttosport have also relayed his comments on Cambiaso.

The director mentions the Premier League club’s interest in the Italy international, but doesn’t mention why the operation didn’t take shape.

“There was interest from an important English club which then didn’t materialise. Nothing strange,” Giuntoli explained.

“We have a lot of young guys who are tempting but we hold on to them. Juventus always have the duty and desire to do its best in all competitions.”

It’s to be noted the former Napoli director hasn’t specifically mentioned Manchester City. He only states, ‘English club’ and it’s likely to be Pep Guardiola’s side, after the fullback’s agent confirmed their interest.

Cambiaso made 28 appearances in all competitions for Juventus this season.
