FC Twente midfielder Sem Steijn has revealed that they all cheered when they drew Manchester United in the Europa League draw.
Twente Insite cover comments from the midfielder today as he revealed he and his teammates are more than looking forward to their trip to Old Trafford.
Manchester United are set to take on Twente in their first game of the newly formed league system in the Europa League this season.
Rather than group stages, teams will instead play six single games, three home and three away, in an effort to qualify for the knockout phases of the competition.
Manchester United host Twente in their opening game later this month before then taking on Porto away, Fenerbahce away, PAOK at home, BODO/Glimt at home and then Viktoria Plzen away.
Given the trips to Porto and Fenerbahce, it’s fair to assume that Twente are not considered the toughest of those fixtures at this moment in time by Erik ten Hag and his staff.
But it seems the Dutch side have no plans for their trip to England to be a holiday, with Steijn revealing they are very much looking forward to the game and taking on Manchester United.
“We were disappointed for a while, but then of course we had the draw for the Europa League, and then you just have Champions League matches,” he said.
“That’s great (the United tie), that’s what we were hoping for before the draw. When it happened, we all cheered. We were very happy with it, super cool.
“I had two games that I wanted to play: Manchester United away and Fenerbahce. That has to do with the fact that we went away against Fenerbahce last year. I always had the feeling that there could have been more, especially because we went there with came up 0-1 and ended up with one man down. Then things went very fast.”
