Since Watford announced the signing of João Pedro from Fluminense last weekend, there have been several stories in the Brazilian press about the U-17 squad he’s part of.
The boys have been impressing for a long time now, and that’s what website UOL explains in an article today.
They come up with numbers showing that in 36 matches this year, Fluminense’s U-17 level have scored 125 times, keeping an average of 3.4 goals per game.
João Pedro is the top scorer of this team, with 31 goals this year. Coming after him there are Marcos Paulo with 12 and Wallace with 11.
The team have just qualified for Copa do Brasil’s quarter-finals, having beat Cruzeiro 6-0 in the first leg and 2-0 in the second. João Pedro scored a hat-trick in the first win.
With the striker set to join Watford in 2020, in a deal already confirmed, UOL writes that he could have a chance in the first team next year, still at the age of 17. That’s something we pointed out yesterday, in a story about the youngster’s preparations before moving to England.
