Watford’s great start to the Premier League season has been attracting worldwide attention. And on Monday, they are featured in Argentina’s most famous sports newspaper.

Calling the Hornets the ‘incredible leader in the Premier League’, what the outlet does is to present the club to its readers.

Olé says that Elton John ‘is the club’s most famous fan’, then recalls that he ‘saved them from downfall’ and reports that he has a stand with his name on at Vicarage Road.

By relating Watford to Elton John, the outlet does what most of the South American media has been doing when reporting the club’s wins.

That’s no surprise, as the singer is much more famous than the club.

Olé points out that the Hornets’ squad is worth €160m, ‘far from the thousand million that is worth Manchester City’, and is now sharing the top of the table with Chelsea and Liverpool.

In the picture, of course, there’s Roberto Pereyra, anf the Argentine outlet calls him ‘Tucu Pereyra’.

The midfielder had a short career in his home country, only playing professionally for River Plate. In 2011 he moved to Italy to play for Udinese. In 2014 he made the transfer to Juventus, and has now been playing for Watford since 2016.

After Watford’s great start to the season, the Spanish media have moved on from Elton John, a few more games like this and the pop star may not be the major reference with the club overseas.
