One of the stories rumbling along quite nicely in the local Spanish newspapers is that of Luis Javier Suarez’s transfer from Watford to somewhere in Spain.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Gimnastic in La Liga2, where he scored six goals and picked up two assists in 36 appearances, and his performances were good enough to attract attention from other clubs in the league.

Real Zaragoza were one of them, and it was revealed by El Periodico de Aragaon that the Colombian was ‘very interested’ in remaining in Spain next year, after the Spanish side had ‘contacted’ both Watford and the player’s entourage to see what the situation was.

It was then explained by the same outlet that Watford wouldn’t take long to respond to the La Liga2 side, although it was made clear there would be no option to buy the player inserted in the deal, as the Hornets want to avoid him leaving for a low fee should he have a great season.

Fast forward to Monday and its reiterated, once again by El Periodico de Aragon, that Real Zaragoza are the ‘great favourites’ to sign Suarez from the Premier League side on loan.

Watford have told Suarez they are ready to accept an offer from his preferred club, and that the deal had to be sorted by June 30th.

Zaragoza believes that means them, but the striker is currently waiting to see if he gets an offer from a club in Spain’s top-tier (which isn’t expected to happen).

If it doesn’t, then it’s said he feels Zaragoza is the ‘best possible destination’ to continue his development.
