Last night, Watford announced that their new signing João Pedro had his work permit approved by the Premier League.

Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte had published a story about it minutes before that, and brought a few more details regarding what this announcement means.

First thing is: they’re now pretty sure that João Pedro should move to the Hornets in January. The agreement with Fluminense never made it clear about the time of the transfer, if in the winter or the summer, and the work permit should make things happen faster.

João Pedro is only 18, and has never been called up for the national team, so there had been some doubts about his success in getting the authotization.

With the work permit now sorted, Watford are now having to pay another €1.5m, as a clause in the deal stipulated the Premier League side needed to pay this bonus after the paperwork was sorted.

So the Hornets have now spent €2.5m with the initial fee and other €3.5m with bonuses. The transfer can get to a total of €10m.
