Making a late move for Joakim Maehle after letting Cédric Soares go on loan to Inter, Southampton made it clear a new right-back is on the agenda in the near future.

The Dane appears to have been top of the Saints’ list, but other names are slowly emerging, including Nantes’ Enock Kwateng.

According to Goal France, both Watford and Southampton have both made their interest known to the 21-year-old, whose contract is set to expire in the summer.

The website state both the Hornets and Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have ‘asked for information’ about the defender, and even sent scouts to go watch him at the weekend in their 1-0 loss to Leonardo Jardim’s Monaco.

At the club since 2012, Kwateng has been near ever-present this season for the Ligue 1 side, starting 19 of a possible 25 league games, picking up one assist and three yellow cards.

If he’s free, then Watford’s and Southampton’s interest is certainly justified.

After all, bargain hunting is the best and relatively risk free.
