With a plethora of Portuguese talent emerging of late, it’s become a regular occurrence for Premier League scouts to be in attendance at various fixtures.

That was the case last night, with Record reporting several clubs were at The Estádio da Luz to take in Benfica vs RB Leipzig.

Among those clubs were Watford, who took up residence alongside the likes of Everton and Liverpool, according to Record.

Who the Hornets were in Portugal to scout isn’t mentioned, but there were plenty of players on show who the club could be interested in.

On the Benfica side, youngsters Tomás Tavares, David Tavares and Nuno Tavares would undoubtedly be of interest given Watford’s desire to hoover up young talent of late.

Tomás Tavares started at right-back while David Tavares came off the bench, although neither had a particularly good evening in the 1-2 defeat.

On the RB Leipzig side of things, Marcel Halstenberg would undoubtedly be a player worth looking at given 35-year-old José Holebas is first choice in the position at present.

The German racked up eight assists in all competitions last season and is excellent with set-pieces, so would be an ideal long-term replacement for Holebas if Watford were looking for one.

Either way, Watford’s presence at the game is certainly interesting, and it seems unlikely this will be the last we hear of it moving forward.
