Watford are one of the clubs in the picture to sign Alexis Flips from Reims, according to claims from France.

Foot Mercato report the Premier League club have ‘very recently’ moved into the picture for the player, and have ‘positioned’ themselves for his signing.

What that specifically means, or how recent the ‘very’ is, isn’t made clear.

The Hornets aren’t alone in the chase, with it explained Villarreal and Frankfurt are also in the picture. All the clubs named have contacted the Ligue 1 side to find out the conditions of a potential move.

Reims’ stance is that the player isn’t available during the current window, although Foot Mercato make it clear that anything can change in that regard.

Flips is a very versatile player, with him being deployed in various midfield roles so far this season. He’s also been used in attack and at right-back, so it’s clear the 21-year-old would cover a number of positions for any club which goes through with a purchase.

His valuation is put at around €7m, which wouldn’t be a problem for Watford if they’re genuinely keen.
