Signed by Claudio Ranieri when the Italian was in charge of Watford, Nicolas N’Koulou’s time at Vicarage Road hasn’t exactly gone to plan.
That’s entirely down to a hamstring injury, which has kept him out of action since the 4-1 win over Manchester United back in November, with him not really expected to return before the end of the season.
The Watford defender only signed on for a year, meaning he is currently free to talk to other clubs who might be interested in him, with Lazio reportedly one of them.
In fact, it appears the 32-year-old will not be staying with the Hornets, and a return to Italy could firmly be on the cards.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who explain Lazio are looking at him to reinforce their defence, as the player will ‘free himself’ from Watford in the summer.
That means he’s ready to run down his contract without signing a renewal, perhaps due to the club’s current precarious position in the Premier League.
Watford currently sit 18th in the league, three points behind Everton, who have two games in hand on them.
Either way, it seems Lazio are ready to welcome him with open arms this summer.
