Schalke’s interest in Dodi Lukebakio continues to be pushed in the German sport media.
The player has spent the season on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf and he’s certainly done enough to be a temptation for other clubs. It’s been stated Watford are looking to sell, rather than bring him into Javi Gracia’s squad, and that the Hornets want to make good money from the transfer.
There’s been claims in France of interest from Lille, but there the valuation was put at €101-15m which seems unrealistically low for the Ligue 1 club’s hopes.
They’d likely also find a problem on wages.
This week’s edition of SportBild reports Schalke have ‘promised’ the Watford owned player around ten times what he currently earns. It’s explained he’s currently picking up €500k per year, and has been offered a basic salary of €4m which could reach €5m with bonuses.
It’s thought this wouldn’t leave Lukebakio indifferent, but the problem is Watford.
Again, the German media put the club’s asking price at €20m. That amount seems fair, especially given the salary, but it’s still thought to be an issue for Schalke.
