Watford are closing in on Anderlecht forward Stefano Okaka, according to claims in Italy. The Italy international has been linked with a move to Sunderland in the past week following claims Crystal Palace and Swansea City wanted the player in the last transfer window.

TMW have revealed in the last hour that Watford and Anderlecht have come to an agreement with regards to Okaka heading to England before the transfer deadline on Wednesday.

The former Sampdoria forward will now have his medical before he signs his contract with the Premier League side. With the influence of the Pozzo family in Italian football, it seems they’ve managed to use this to land the player ahead of Sunderland.

Last week we reported Sunderland were continuing to track Okaka, but they couldn’t reach an agreement to sign the Italian. The North East side had been linked with Okaka this month following claims from Belgium that Sunderland were willing to bid around €5m-€6m for Okaka, but Anderlecht wanted at least €10m, which the Premier League side thought was too much.
