There was a time when the Portuguese press didn’t believe André Carrillo would be playing for Benfica next season.

Local newspapers claimed that either Watford would buy him permanently after his loan, or he would be sold somewhere else in the summer.

But it seems things changed a little, as Carrillo gets a mention in A Bola’s transfer special about the Eagles today.

They say the Peruvian is one of the two loanees who will have a place in the Benfica squad for the next season.

The newspaper claims that ‘everything indicates’ that Watford are not interested in activating the €20m buying clause, and therefore, he should return to Lisbon.

A Bola doesn’t mention any possibility of Watford negotiating with Benfica for a smaller fee, even though it had been claimed as a real possibility in the past.

After a season with two goals and two assists in 30 appearances, it looks like the end of the line for Carrillo at Watford.
