On Friday evening, Seville regional newspaper Estadio Deportivo linked Arsenal with Sergio Rico. The Sevilla goalkeeper was said to be of interest to new manager Unai Emery, one of several options for the Gunners to sign a new stopper.

It felt like a rumour based on the assumption that because Emery gave Rico his debut at Sevilla, he’d have the goalkeeper on his list for Arsenal.

Now there’s more from the same newspaper.

It’s claimed Watford are keen, as the club look to have a big change in their goalkeeping department this summer. West Ham are said to have made an approach last summer

Pontus Dahlberg has already been secured, but the claims from Spain would suggest Watford are looking for someone more senior as well, and that would see the exit of Heurelho Gomes.

Orestis Karnezis looks like he’ll be returning to Udinese, but there’s also Daniel Bachmann, and not to forget Costel Pantilimon, although he may well stay at Nottingham Forest.

Should Watford look to shed themselves of at least two of the names mentioned then Rico may be an option, but the claims don’t seem especially concrete.

West Ham returning looks likelier than Watford swooping, unless there’s quick changes at the latter.
