Matheus Martins is staying at Watford for the next season, the Brazilian media says.

Signed by Udinese on a €6m deal with Fluminense back in the winter market, the player was loaned to the Hornets this year.

Even though the spell was supposed to come to an end in a few days, Globo Esporte says the 19-year-old should stay where he is.

It’s claimed the clubs have underway a deal to extend the loan for one year, keeping him at Vicarage Road until the next summer.

Watford and Udinese obviously share the same owners, so that’s just part of a plan where the Pozzo family can keep moving their players around.

As soon as Martins joined the Hornets in January, he took part in their first six games, most of them as a starter. Then he stayed on the bench in one match, and was never taken to the match day squad once again.

In May, the youngster took part in the U-20 World Cup, having represented Brazil with two goals and two assists in five appearances.

Now it seems that despite the lack of use at Watford, he’s in the club’s plans to continue developing there.
