Relegated with Watford at the end of last season, Christian Kabasele was perhaps one of the few players who could, and probably should, have returned to the Premier League via a transfer.
That didn’t happen, however, and the Belgian stayed at Vicarage Road, where he has been a regular in the Championship when fit in the club’s quest to regain their top-tier status come the end of the current campaign.
The Hornets are currently second in the table, a good ten points behind leaders Norwich City, having played a game more than third placed Swansea, but, all in all, they’re on the right track after 36 games.
Out with an injury since late December, Kabasele has now returned to full training, and while he has yet to play a game this year, that hasn’t stopped Roberto Martínez from considering him for his next Belgium national team squad.
Clearly in form prior to being sidelined, the Watford man caught the Spanish manager’s eye, and Walfoot are reporting as an exclusive that he will select the centre-back in his upcoming squad.
Kabasele’s last call up came in October 2018, even if he didn’t play, with his last appearance in his country’s shirt dating back to November 2017.
To say the Watford man has been patient is an understatement, but it appears it will all be rewarded this week when Martínez announces his squad on Friday.
There are a few injuries in the Belgium regulars, which has helped his cause a little bit, but this is a chance the player certainly will want to grab with both hands.
