According to a claim in the Italian media, Watford are looking to sign Udinese goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis before the deadline.

The Greek international has also been linked with a move to Newcastle United this summer, with Rafael Benitez keen to bring in an experienced keeper. A bid was made by Newcastle United to sign the player.

TMW have reported Watford are looking to do some last minute business by bringing in Karnezis. With the Pozzo family owning both Udinese and Watford, players have been transferred between the two club in recent years, and Karnezis could be arriving in England.

Despite current Watford No.1 Heurelho Gomes extending his contract it seems Marco Silva wants to provide competition for the Brazilian. It’s also reported Udinese defender Molla Wague could arrive at Vicarage Road before the window closes.

Karnezis has already been linked with a move to the Premier League, following Newcastle United’s interest earlier in the window.

We covered reports from Italy that Newcastle United boss Benitez was looking to sign Karnezis, as the Spaniard continued to explore the possibility of bringing in an experienced goalkeeper.

This summer Matz Sels joined Anderlecht on loan for the season, and Karnezis was an option for Benitez. At the time it was reported the Udinese player preferred to remain in Italy rather than move to Newcastle United.
