Watford are keen on signing Ghanian midfielder Isaac Cofie, reports Gazzamercato. The 25-year-old is out of contract at Genoa next summer, and Gazzamercato believe Watford are ready to ‘test the waters’.
Watford boss Walter Mazzarri is reportedly a big fan of Cofie, and would want to bring him to England. The Premier League club, however, could face competition from Hoffenheim, who are also very keen on his services.
Interestingly, Cofie only made his first appearance for Genoa this season after 13 league games, and now has started each of their last three league matches.
Gazzamercato haven’t mentioned if Watford would want to sign him in January or on a free transfer next summer, and that remains to be seen. Cofie has played for several clubs in Italy, after starting out his career at Genoa, but we’re not really sure if he could be a good enough first choice option for Watford.
The Pozzo family will of course be well aware of the player, but reports of Watford interest could be more designed to flush out others. Watford’s name is often used in Italian transfer rumours, to try and hype a player up, and being owned by the Pozzo family only encourages that.
