Watford midfield Etienne Capoue is closing in on a move to Valencia after telling the Hornets he wants to leave this summer.
The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move away from Vicarage Road following their relegation to the Championship, with him and several other first-team stars all thought to be keen on transfers away.
Valencia, managed by former Watford boss Javi Gracia, have been keen on Capoue for a couple of months and have been working to get him to the Mestalla.
So far a deal hasn’t been struck between the two sides, but Marca say that is now looking likely to happen in the near future.
They explain that Watford have confirmed Capoue is free to leave the club after asking them to listen to Valencia’s proposal.
He wants to join the Spanish side after being convinced by Gracia, who phoned him to discuss the project.
He’s even agreed to lower his wages from his current €2.8m a year to facilitate the move and is now just waiting for an agreement between the two clubs.
Valencia had already made a first approach to take the player on loan at zero cost, which Watford had initially rejected, but Marca say that ‘it seems that there will be a solution’ on that front.
