Watford have told Osasuna they intend to bring defender Pervis Estupiñán back to the club this summer, a year earlier than expected.
Estupiñán joined the Spanish side on a two-year loan deal in the summer, seeking regular playing time that wasn’t on offer at Watford.
He’s proven to be a massive hit in Spain thus far, with a series of impressive performances and stats to match earning him rave reviews from several corners.
That attention has now made Watford reconsider their plans, according to Diario de Navarra, who say the Premier League side now intend to bring him back this summer rather than next.
They explain that Osasuna had hoped to keep Estupiñán for the entirety of the two-year deal, anticipating that Watford would see it as an ideal chance for him to continue to raise his value.
However, talks between the two clubs in recent days have indicated that will not be the case and the Hornets have ‘formally’ told them they will be ending his stay this summer.
In theory, Estupiñán’s contract with the club ends on June 30th, but there is an agreement for him to extend his stay until the end of the Spanish season.
He will then return to Watford, who will have to decide what they wish to do with him and those plans are likely to depend heavily on whether they can avoid relegation this season.
Should they decide to sell and make a profit there will be a host of interested clubs, with Manchester United and Atlético Madrid specifically named as suitors.
They are not the only ones, though, with ‘scouts from half of Europe’ having followed his ‘evolution’ this season, putting him ‘on the radar of highly relevant clubs’.
Offers will therefore not be lacking, although if Watford decide another loan is best, Osasuna will have ‘priority’ over him.
They are even willing to offer a ‘contract improvement’ to the left-back, who it seems is set to have a very busy summer indeed.
